The Little Horn

To understand more fully who the little horn of Daniel 7 is, please first of all, read through the study on the prophecies of Daniel 2 & 7.

This little horn power is the first time in the Bible that the end times antichrist comes onto the scene. Let's read the passage in Daniel 7 that describes the little horn:

Daniel 7:8,20,21,24,25 ...'I considered the horns, and, behold, there daniel little horncame up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things. And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them. And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.' ... So these are all the verses in Daniel 7 concerning the little horn power.

Where Daniel says 'I considered the horns', he is talking about the ten horns coming out of the fourth beast. This beast, as revealed in the prophecies of Daniel was the nation of Rome. The ten horns are a symbol of the ten kingdoms that Rome split into when it fell in 476 AD ... Daniel 7:24 ...'And the ten horns out of this kingdom, are ten kings that shall arise.'

So let's deal with the little horn power. The first thing we notice, is that it is a 'little' horn. We know from the above that the horns represent kings/kingdoms, so this little horn is a little kingdom. Believe it or not, the Vatican state is a COUNTRY! It's the smallest country there is, which matches this 'little' horn. The next thing we notice is that it rises up 'among' the other horns. When Daniel was considering the ten horns, this little horn came up 'among' them. This has two implications. The first is that the other ten horns were already there, so this little horn came up AFTER the ten, and the little horn came up 'among' them, therefore this little kingdom came up in the same area as the other ten kingdoms. Does this match the the Papal Church of Rome? Yes it does! You see, Pagan Rome fell in 476 AD and split into the ten kingdoms of Europe. The Roman Catholic Church came to power in 538 AD (which is after Rome split into the ten kingdoms). Also, the Roman Catholic Church came up 'among' the ten kingdoms of Europe. See the following quote from 'The History of the Christian Church, Vol.3':

"The (Roman Church-State) power became supreme in Christendom in 538AD, due to a letter of the Roman Emperor Justinian, known as Justinian's decree, which setup and acknowledged the bishop of Rome as the head of all churches. It gave the (Roman Church-State) political power, civil power, as well as ecclesiastical power. This letter became part of Justinians code, the fundamental law of the empire, and that year, pope Vigilius ascended the throne under the military protection of Belasarius (one of Justinians Generals)."

The next thing to notice about the little horn power is that it 'plucks up' three of the other ten horns. History confirms that the Roman Catholic Church destroyed three kingdoms when she rose to power. Please note that it is not the bishops and priests that go around destroying the nations, but the Roman military army, which was under the power of the bishop of Rome. There were three kingdoms that would not bow down to the authority of the Catholic Church, and those kingdoms were the 'Heruli', the 'Vandals' and the 'Ostrogoths'. These were the three kingdoms 'plucked up by the roots'. What happens when you pluck up a plant by it's roots? There's nothing left of it. The same can be said for these three kingdoms, they were completely destroyed!

The little horn also has 'eyes like a man'. This denotes that there would be a prominent leader of the end time antichrist system, which matches the pope's of the Roman Catholic Church. What else does the little horn of Daniel do? It says in Daniel 7 that he 'speaks great things' and 'speaks great words against the Most High'. Do the Roman Catholic Church speak great things, and blasphemies against God? Oh yes!! See a small sample below of the sort of 'great things' that the Catholic Church speaks:

"All must be subject to him (the pope) who has had all things put under him (the pope)." Evangelical Christendom, Jan 1, 1895, page15

"The pope is of so great dignity, and so exalted, that he is not a mere man, but as it were God." Ferraris Ecclesiastical Dictionary.

"No man may enter (into the kingdom) unless he is led by the Sovereign Pontiff, and only if they be united to him, can men be saved." Pope John XXIII at his coronation, Nov.4, 1958

"Hence the pope is crowned with a triple crown, as king of heaven and of earth." Lucius Ferraris, Prompta Bibliotheca, 1763 Volume VI, papa II, page26

"This judicial authority will even include the power to forgive sin." The Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol XII, page265

As we can see from the above quotes, which by the way, is a very small sample of the hundreds of pompous quotes, that the Roman Catholic Church do indeed speak great things against God. To say that you are god and can pardon sins, is nothing but blasphemy against the true Creator God.

little horn persecutionThis little horn power also 'makes war with the saints, and wears them out for a time, times and dividing of time'. Now what is this time, times and half a time? This time period in Bible prophecy is well known to be 1260 days. But they are not literal days. In bible prophecy, a day equals a year ... Ezekiel 4:6 ...'I have appointed thee each day for a year.' ... See also Numbers 14:34 ...'After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.' ... So this time period of 1260 days is actually 1260 years. See the day for a year principle for more info on this. Now the amazing thing is, this is the exact time period that the Roman Catholic Church reigned, between 538 AD - 1798 AD. During this time, the Papal Church persecuted the saints of God for not bowing down to her. It is said that at least 50 MILLION Christians were slaughtered during this time period of 1260 years. But in 1798, the French took the pope captive and the Roman Catholic Church lost it's power. Take a look at a few quotes below stating the butchery of the Roman Church:

"The Waldenses were burned, they were cast into damp and horrid dungeons; they were smothered in crowds in mountain caverns, mothers and babes, and old men and women together; they were sent out in the winter night unclothed; they were hurled over the rocks; their houses and lands taken; their children were stolen to be indoctrinated into the religion that they abhorred. Thousands were hung, quartered, broken upon the wheel, or burned alive, all for the benefit of the king, and Holy See." Thompson - The Papacy and the Civil power

"The church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed." W.E.H. Lecky, History of the rise and influence of the spirit of rationalism in Europe, Vol.2 page32 1910

"On August 24 1572, Roman Catholics in France, by pre-arranged plan, under Jesuit influence, murdered 70,000 protestants within the space of two months. The pope rejoiced when he heard the news." Western Watchman, Nov.21, 1912

"From the birth of popery to the present time, more than 50 million of the human family have been slaughtered for the crime of heresy by the popish persecutors." John Dowling, The history of Romanism, pages 541-542

Let me just state one of the quotes above again ... "The church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed." ... Does that sound like antichrist to you? It does to me!

It is also interesting to note that in March 12, 2000, pope John Paul II admitted the Roman Catholic Church killed the believers. So we can clearly see that the Roman Church has the blood of the saints on her hands.

The next identifying mark of this little horn power is that it is 'diverse' from the other horns. Well, this is pretty straight forward. The other ten kingdoms were strictly political civil powers, whereas this little horn power is a religio-political power. In other words, it had religious and civil power together. The Roman Catholic Church (The Papacy) was and is a religious and civil power at the same time.

The last thing to notice about this little horn, is that it 'thinks to change times and laws'. What Law is God concerned with? His own Law of course, the ten commandments. So this power thinks to change the law of God. But notice it only 'thinks' to do this. It doesn't have the power to actually change God's laws, it can only do it in the sphere of worldly power. The Catholic Church is well known for changing the Ten Commandments of God, by removing the second commandment to do with idols, and split the tenth commandment into two to make it back up to ten. But they have done something else as well, they sought to 'change times'. What could this mean? God Commanded that we keep the Sabbath Day on the seventh day (our Saturday), but the Roman Catholic Church claim to have changed it to the first day (our Sunday). See the following quotes:

"The pope is of great authority that he can modify divine laws, since his power is not of man, but of God." Lucius Ferraris, Prompta Bibliotheca, papa II

"The authority of the church could therefore not be bound to the authority of the scriptures, because the church had changed the Sabbath into Sunday, not by command of Christ, but by it's own authority." Canon and Tradition, page.263

To summarize, let's look at all the identifying marks that the Roman Catholic Church is the little horn power of Daniel 7:

A Little horn      -      The Vatican is a little country

It comes up among the other horns      -      The Catholic Church came to power among the ten split kingdoms of Europe

It plucks up 3 of the other horns      -      The Catholic Church destroyed 3 kingdoms

It is diverse from the other horns      -      The Papacy (Catholic Church) is a religio-political power

It speaks great things against God      -      The Catholic Church speaks blasphemies against God

It wears out the saints      -      The Catholic Church persecuted and killed millions of Christians

It thinks to change times and law      -      The Catholic church thinks it can change the laws of God

It ruled for 1260 years      -      The Catholic Church reigned between 538AD - 1798AD

No other kingdom/power matches this little horn in Daniel 7 the way the Roman Catholic Church does. It's a perfect match! Many of the great reformers knew this truth also; John Wycliffe; John Huss; Martin Luther; William Tyndale; John Wesley, Ellen White. They pointed to the Catholic Church as being this little horn antichrist.

If you belong to the Roman Catholic Church, then I urge you to open your eyes to the truth of this organization. This page is not an attack at you, but at the leaders and teachings of this institution. God is calling you out of this apostate, harlot church, as it will soon receive the full wrath of God for it's wickedness (Revelation 14:9-11; Revelation 18:4) Will you heed His call?
